Social Engineering: From Science Fiction to the Present

The concept of “social engineering” is one that Western society has struggled with for at least a century. Karl Popper, the famous philosopher of science, wrote in his work The Open Society and Its Enemies about the pitfalls of social engineering and distinguished between different forms. The field of cybernetics attempted to quantify and model mass behaviors. More well known, however, are its appearances in the literary world of science fiction.  Continue reading
